MommyCHiC:  Keisha Whitaker

Mom-preneur Keisha Whitaker multitasks as a model posing in a
CHiC Choco-Pink Glam Tank.

COCOACHiC is black beauty defined — confidence, urban, sophisticated, authentic, modern, chocolate, sistas looking good as they do it for themselves. Why is Keisha Nash Whitaker, wife of Oscar® winner Forest Whitaker, COCOACHiC? In her own words, “I think I would consider myself COCOACHiC because I take risks, and overcome adversity, all without losing my sense of self. I’ve managed to raise three daughters and nurture a successful marriage in Hollywood, while striving to become a more supportive and giving person. Positivity and a proactive spirit is the best beauty regime, and that feels totally COCOACHiC!” That said, one better, Keisha is certified official: MommyCHiC – the finesse and beauty that only a woman who has created life, self-sacrificed and smiled through the worst can exude. The youthful aura and slender frame of the caramel-skinned beauty beguiles the wisdom and strength of this maternal powerhouse. Yet, with all her work, Keisha doesn’t play on being a mom that’s dull.

From Work to Play Makeup & Hair

Her hired help makeup artist and business partner AJ Crimson and hair stylist David L. Calhoun III are indispensable to serve up one haute momma with her signature look of well glam that’s not overdone.

AJ applied Caudalie Pulpe Vitaminee Energizing Cream Moisturizer and then Yves Saint Laurent Concealer. “Many African American women tend to have a variety of ‘Tone Zones’ on the face,” explained AJ, “and to accommodate this variation I used two Bobbi Brown Foundation shades to create a natural look.” The darker shade was used around the perimeter of her face/hairline and to contour the cheek area. The lighter shade was used for the middle of the face to enhance a natural glow. Then the areas were blended for a polished look. Nars shadow in Voyage, MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy, and Dior Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Brown and DiorShow Mascara in Rich Black were all used on eyes. For adding eyelashes, AJ recommends your garden variety drugstore brand applied just above the lash line with Duo Eyelash Adhesive in Dark Tone glue as it will be seamless when mascara is applied. Shades #25 and #153 of Make Up For Ever Powder Blush were used on cheeks. And of course, Keisha & AJ’s new line Kissable Couture First Kiss gloss in Chris on her lips.

David advises that to bring out the hair’s natural shine conditioning is the key. Keisha’s hair styling began with washing hair in warm water then rinsing at a cooler temperature to seal the hair shaft. This method helps give great shine without using a lot of product. David used product sparingly to avoid weighing the hair down and to maintain health. The Chi Turbo flat iron is a ceramic thermal tool that gives off a gentler type of heat. He detangled hair with the Denman D200 plastic bristle brush.

Mom-nificent in a Minute

Given her hectic schedule, Keisha gave these makeup, skin and hair products and tips for time-starved mothers who seek to look CHiC:

  • Makeup: “I brush MAC Bronzer on my cheeks and swipe it over my eyelids.  Basically, I’m just one big shimmer puff.  On lashes DiorShow Mascara and, of course, on lips Kissable Couture!”
  • Skin:  “Keri Shea Butter Lotion is perfect for COCOA skin, very nourishing.  Because I kept leaving those expensive cleansing creams in hotel a bathroom, Ponds Cleansing wipes is a great replacement when I’m on the go.”
  • Hair:  “Tancho Stick is this great Japanese product that smoothes fly-aways.”
