COCOAHOMME ~ Men of Color with Distinguished Grooming & Style
A signature scent is an important part of a gentleman's wardrobe. It's an accessory that goes one step farther to define your style. The type of cologne you wear is just as significant as the watch you strap on whether it be a sporty chronograph, a classic leather-strapped tank or your grandfather's pocket watch. Now of course, the cologne you wear can also be dictated by the season as well as the activity…you may not select the same timepiece for work and play or the same suit for summer and winter. A select few COCOAHOMME colognes for the summer months you might find enticing depending on your mood and style. The Sports Enthusiast: Tommy Summer by Tommy Hilfiger

The new men's line includes four products: All products contain natural ingredients such as Jojoba oil and tea tree oil to soften hair, control frizz, and allow for easy styling. Hear from the men about Elasta QP on their hair: Frank, a Latino with thick unruly hair, found the Wave and Styling Gel helped create soft waves and a defined style (rather than his usual curly ‘fro). James, an African-American man in his mid forties, loved how the Texturizing Kit tamed his frizz while adding soft waves. “My hair had great shine and the waves felt soft without any frizz,” James saihd. Roy, a mid twenties hip African-American man, loved the Glaze, “Normally my hair looks horrible when it rains, frizzed and harsh texture. The Glaze helped to tame my frizz while leaving a really incredible sheen to it and a nice feel. My girlfriend loved it.” The Elasta QP line can be found at ElastaQP.com, through your stylist or beauty supply stores. Visit www.ElastaQP.com for more information. By Ellen Rosner Feig
For the African-American urban man of style, hairstyle plays a major role in accentuating facial features and in defining one's uniqueness.
With my pristine head style come certain allusions to Hollywood celebrities, some pleasurable and others not. On the best of days, I get, "you remind me of that dude from How Stella Got Her Groove Back," a certainly complimentary semblance to the looks and suave of Taye Diggs in the 1998 romance hit. On other days, I get, "you look like Seal, please sing Kissed By A Rose." Not so bad, I certainly don't mind being Seal if I could get a piece of Heide Klum, the hilltop mansion, and a voice that wins a Grammy. On the totally hilarious days, especially most recently, and since the celebrated Leonardo DiCaprio film, I get, "Bro, you look like that African dude from Blood Diamond . . . the one that said 'He is my son. I am his Father. I must save Him!'" Whether it's a close shave, a total shave, a well-coiffed 'fro, or long dreadlocks, there is a sundry of styles that exist for black men which, in fact, vary in of themselves. Within the beauty that exists in the diversity of a black man's hair, owing to its conformity to a repertoire of styles, the decision to go bald is certainly a bold and daring step. Wearing the totally bald look requires a great deal of confidence. It exudes an aura of strength, coolness, passion and masculinity, especially when it complements a refined personality. Pioneered by Michael Jordan in the 80's, the bald look has stood the trials of time and has promoted the sleek sex appeal upheld by major actors like: Ving Rhames in Mission Impossible; Tyrese, the notorious and maturing Baby Boy; Damon Wayans in the hotheaded Major Payne; James Lesure from NBC's Las Vegas, and other stunning black male media faces. Not all head shapes conform to the bald style. The gift of working the baldheadedness is only given to a select few. According to hairboutique.com: Respect who you are and you'll just naturally feel good about yourself. A sense of pride and individuality is hot. Women are naturally attracted to men that radiate happiness — with or without hair. I'm Black, bringing the sexy Back, with an urbane and sophisticated touch of radiant Baldness.

The formula for the perfect gift combines equal parts thoughtfulness on the part of the giver with usefulness and, particularly, desire on the part of the recipient. What do you give if you're on a bit of a budget, for a dad or special man in your life who's not into, or better yet, doesn't need any more tools, tackle or ties? A single, leather-bound volume with all the how-to's on being dapper. Manifest X.O details "the Style fundamentals of the Good Life". Co-author Marc Gunn say the book "characterizes what it means to embody boldness, taste and a refined lifestyle, in the manner of 'tradition'." Throughout its 12 chapters, the reader is taken "through the 'Man'-damentals" that have been passed down through generations. Gunn stresses that signs of living the Good Life are found in "the way you dress, plus the way that you treat others, manage your affairs, carry yourself, entertain, improve yourself mentally and physically and give of yourself to others." That is, the Good Life is not so much about the cost of one's accoutrements, but rather the way one lives his life. What makes Manifest X.O such a wonderful gift, in addition to the wisdom dispensed, is the list of "Essentials", things that every man should have, within every chapter. These "Essentials" will serve not only as lifestyle guides for the recipient of the book, but also as a gift guide for the giver. One may, says Gunn, "refer to the "Essentials" lists for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, etc. and help to build up the arsenal" of fundamentals for the Good Life. Manifest X.O ($45) is available for sale at www.manifestxo.com or www.amazon.com. By Sacha Phillip

Don't flirt with a foul-smelling mouth. Bad breath is unappealing and a turn off no matter a man's good looks or charm. It's not enough to rely only on the breath test of blowing into your cupped hand. Breath refreshers should be among a man's best friends. Here are a few that are easy to carry around to keep as constant pocket pals.
"Take note that these products may be a cover up because they are just refreshers," warns Charles Grannum, DDS of Clinton Hill Family Dentistry. "You need to find out the true cause." According to Dr. G, you may need a tooth cleaning, or have periodontal or gum disease, a sinus or throat infection, or gastrointestinal/stomach problems. Although men typically don't like to see health professionals, the first step to addressing the problem is simply a dental office visit. "Most cases of bad breath are the result of inadequate hygiene or gum treatment," says Dr. G. "I recommend good ol' fashion flossing to get rid of bacteria between teeth — Glide Floss is good for those with trouble — and toothbrushes with soft bristles." Contact Dr. Grannum at drgrannum@aol.com or call (718) 783-6228 to schedule an appointment. Now you can spit fresh game. ~T. Bernie
