Starry Eyes
 La Sonya Gunter |
As a makeup artist for more than 18 years working with several starlets of color on Broadway for top shows such as Hairspray and Wicked, La Sonya Gunter doesn't bat a lash as to how she puts on a good face. From her love of glamour to her obsession with long, luscious lashes, COCOACHiC took to 'eye spy' on how La Sonya sets the stage for eye-style.
CHiC: What are some tips for applying lashes?
La Sonya: Use a little liner at the base of the lash line. This will help you with the placement of the lashes. After applying adhesive on the lash, let it set for a moment. Allow the glue to get a bit sticky as this will help the lashes to stay on. Then apply mascara to blend the false lashes in with the natural lashes.
CHiC: Why should someone falsif-eye? What are the benefits of false lashes?
La Sonya: False lashes are great for adding a little or a lot of definition and dimension to your eyes. They can create fuller, longer looking lashes for someone who may have short lashes or lashes that are sparse. They can also go from a simple makeup look to high drama, especially great for a night out on the town. I love them! They are just simply a lot of fun!
CHiC: With lashes, do you recommend extensions also called individuals over a row of false lashes? Why?
La Sonya: I always work with the full band of false lashes. They are more versatile. You can cut them down into individual lashes or just wear half a band. They are also easier to remove.
CHiC: Are there different types of lashes?
La Sonya: Yes, lashes come in many styles, lengths, sizes and colors. Lashes with a full band create a denser, fuller look for lashes. Individual lashes can be added into one's natural lashes if they are sparse or added in to give a wispier effect to lashes. Lashes with an invisible band adhere without need for liner to cover up the band. Brown lashes are great if black lashes are too stark or dramatic. Black lashes create drama and are the most popular lash color.
CHiC: Once lashes are applied, does mascara have to be applied?
La Sonya: Yes, I love using mascara! It helps to make the look of the lashes have a better blend with your natural lashes. It also creates a more dramatic look.

NARS Body Glow : Looks like liquid gold in a bottle and smells good. I like to apply with a little moisturizer to give skin a silky, warm, radiant look.
China Glaze Nail Polish: They have the most amazing colors and the polish is long lasting.
M·A·C 7 LASH: Every woman should have a pair of these.
M·A·C STUDIO TECH: This is a water-based, cream foundation that leaves the skin with a flawless, natural, matte finish.
Estee Lauder Magna Scopic Mascara: It makes your real eyelashes look false.
M·A·C EYE SHADOW Shimmermoss: This is the most beautiful, shimmery turquoise shadow. This color brightens up any eye color. It is also so much fun to use for an evening out on the town.
